Dr. Yasir Hamid Bhat is an Sr. Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Kashmir, located in Hazratbal, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. He earned his PhD from the Centre of Social Medicine & Community Health at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His research, titled "Experiences of Long-Term Illness in an Armed Conflict Area: A Study of Tuberculosis Patients in Kashmir," focuses on understanding the challenges faced by individuals dealing with prolonged illnesses in conflict-ridden regions. He also holds an M.Phil from the same institution, with a focus on "Sources of stress and its Effects on Mental health of BSF personnel: A Case Study from Jammu & Kashmir." His academic journey began with an MA in Psychology from the University of Kashmir, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.

 

Dr. Bhat has a rich teaching experience, presently serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kashmir. Prior to this, he worked as an Assistant Professor at Amar Singh College, Srinagar, specializing in Psychology. He also played a vital role as the Chairperson for the Centre for Counseling at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati, and as an Assistant Professor at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati Campus. Furthermore, Dr. Bhat served as a Trainer for Early Childhood Development at School of Vocational Education (SVE), TISS, in partnership with All India Council for Technical Education.

 

Dr. Bhat's extensive research experience encompasses various critical projects. Notably, he worked as a Research Associate for projects related to urban futures, TB services in urban contexts, and epidemiological profiling using data triangulation. He was also a Principal Researcher for a significant project on understanding stress among Border Security Force (BSF) Personnel.

 

In terms of publications, Dr. Bhat has made significant contributions, presenting his research findings in reputed journals and conferences. He has also been actively engaged as a reviewer for research papers, demonstrating his commitment to academic rigor and excellence. Additionally, Dr. Bhat has received awards and recognition for his research, including Junior Research Fellowship and Maulana Azad National Fellowship.

 

Apart from academia, Dr. Bhat is involved in various roles such as being a Board Member of Under-Graduate Studies at Cluster University, Srinagar, and serving as the Associate Editor of the "International Journal of Academic Research and Development." He has also been actively engaged in community service, serving as a Programme Officer for the National Service Scheme (NSS) at the University of Kashmir.
